Learn More:

Georgia: Kartli, Kakheti
Excellent with roasted poultry, grilled pork, and Georgian dishes like chakapuli or mtsvadi. Its lighter styles also pair beautifully with charcuterie, mushroom-based dishes, and soft cheeses.

Tavkveri is an indigenous red grape variety from Georgia (especially Kartli, also cultivated in Kakheti).  The name is sometimes rendered in various synonyms (e.g. Takveri, Tavkeri, Didmartsvala Tavkveri).

  • Appearance: Tavkveri wines typically show a light to medium ruby hue with a bright crimson or purple tint. Qvevri-aged or extended skin-contact versions deepen in color, showing garnet or brick reflections.
  • Aromas & Flavors: Expect lively aromas of cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, complemented by floral tones of violet and rose. Subtle hints of black pepper, herbs, and earth add depth, while qvevri styles introduce gentle spice and savory notes.
  • Style & Structure: Medium-bodied with moderate tannins and refreshing acidity, Tavkveri is approachable yet complex. In stainless or oak fermentation it remains bright and fruity, while in qvevri it gains texture, grip, and earthy nuance.
  • Character: Tavkveri captures the spirit of Georgian elegance—vivid, aromatic, and balanced. It offers a lighter, more floral expression of Georgian red wine, embodying both tradition and versatility in every glass.
