ジョージア Kartli
Perfect with roasted duck, pork, lamb, or mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with tomato-based pastas, grilled vegetables, and semi-hard cheeses.

Shavkapito is an indigenous red grape variety from central Georgia, primarily cultivated in the Kartli region near Gori and Kaspi. Its name translates to “black stem,” referring to the dark color of its shoots. Once nearly forgotten, Shavkapito has re-emerged as one of Georgia’s most elegant and balanced red varieties, admired for its finesse, freshness, and subtle complexity.

  • Appearance: Shavkapito wines range from bright ruby to deep garnet, showing medium intensity and excellent clarity. Traditional qvevri versions may display slightly deeper, earthy tones.
  • Aromas & Flavors: Expect aromas of red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate, layered with floral hints of violet and rose. Subtle notes of spice, black pepper, and forest herbs appear in aged or qvevri styles, adding depth and minerality.
  • Style & Structure: Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. Shavkapito wines balance freshness with structure, often described as a bridge between Pinot Noir’s elegance and Saperavi’s Georgian character. Stainless or oak-aged versions emphasize fruit purity, while qvevri aging enhances texture and earthiness.
  • Character: Shavkapito captures the refined, noble side of Georgian reds—expressive yet understated. With its harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and freshness, it stands among the most graceful and food-friendly red wines of Georgia.
