Shavkapito is an indigenous red grape variety from central Georgia, primarily cultivated in the Kartli region near Gori and Kaspi. Its name translates to “black stem,” referring to the dark color of its shoots. Once nearly forgotten, Shavkapito has re-emerged as one of Georgia’s most elegant and balanced red varieties, admired for its finesse, freshness, and subtle complexity.
